Rhynchonella

Brachiopods are still around, but they were once far more abundant and widespread. They are not related to bivalve molluscs like cockles and mussels, but fill a similar biological niche.

These Rhynchonella decorata are lovely examples, from the Jurassic limestones of the Ardennes region of France, not far from Nancy.
