Amethyst

A single crystal of the ever-popular Brazilian amethyst. A variety of quartz tinted purple by the presence of traces of iron, and to a lesser extent manganese and aluminium. The name comes from the ancient Greek for not intoxicated, as it was thought the stone prevented people from getting drunk. It doesn't.

Single crystal, between 4-6cm in length.
